About the Pub...

The farmhouse dates back to the 1500s, but it was 150 years ago that it became the establishment that stands today. The pub and the church were at the centre of the Clyst Hydon community until the 20th century when the rector objected to the proximity of the pub, prompting the landlord to move his Inn to an old farmhouse. As a well-aimed riposte to the rector, he renamed the inn after the five bells of Clyst Hydon church.

Step inside and there is now an elevated dining area with a large feature mirror, plenty of tables and chairs, slate-flagged floors, window seats and a Bavarian inspired ‘Stamtisch’ or local’s table.

We have saved the original bar top, restored the parquet flooring and retained all the old roof beams. Exposed brick sits alongside cream wallpaper. For such a deceptively spacious thatched pub there is an abundance of natural light.

All in all, the different elements and spaces in this former farmhouse make it a cosy and relaxed setting to enjoy some cracking pub food or just a pint and a chat with friends.
